Job Summary
Support the Office of Information Services, Server and Infrastructure Group (OIS/SIG), in maintaining a reliable platform for providing Fraternity services. The incumbent will be called upon to apply their expertise in identifying methods for improving/optimizing the Fraternity's server configurations and to assess and act upon problems that cause failures in availability and connectivity. The selected candidate will assist the Director, OIS/SIG in documenting the current baseline configuration of the Fraternity's server and applications infrastructure as well as reporting on any changes to that baseline configuration, when required.
Essential Job Functions
Quickly understand the Fraternity's server/web infrastructure, including server configurations and the applications running on them.
Provide knowledgeable expertise on maintaining and optimizing servers to ensure continuous availability to the Fraternity.
Diagnose root causes of connectivity or server availability failures and apply appropriate actions to restore and maintain expected service.
Document current configuration baseline and any future changes to that baseline, when required.
Required Qualifications
Alumnus of Delta Lambda Phi
Strong knowledge of Linux-based servers (Ubuntu, especially)
Previous experience with operating and administering MySQL databases
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with server administration and operation
Understanding of operating servers in a virtualized environment
Demonstrated knowledge of setting up and debugging MySQL databases
Familiarity with Atlassian suite of products (JIRA, Confluence, Crowd)
Expected Workload
7-10 hours per week
