Chapter
Service & Philanthropy
As
Lambda men, we are called to serve our community through a
variety of philanthropic and
service projects. Through our projects, brothers learn the importance
of giving back and improving the community for all.
Love Responsibly Silent Auction
We
have been the organizers of
the Love Responsibly Silent
Auction since 2008, and volunteered
for the auction several years before that. The auction is held every spring in February
near Valentine's
day. Our support has ensured that the auction runs smoothly. Money raised from the auction goes to Mid-Iowa Community Action's (MICA) Living with HIV program.
MICA's "Living with HIV" program
helps people across Iowa with:
- Assisting with gas vouchers to doctor appointments
- Paying co-pays and other fees related to prescriptions and doctors
visits
- Emergency rental assistance
- Utility assistance and deposits
- Support group activities
- Other needs provided on an emergency basis
This
year's auction (2009) raised over $16,000 for the program.
The MICA staff can no longer be paid to organize
the event, since the time spent on the auction
must be paid from the raised funds. Our
volunteer help will ensure that the money once used to pay
staff costs will instead go where it is needed.
White
Knots of Central Iowa
A
new grassroots initiative started by Delta Lambda Phi Beta
Lambda Chapter in February of 2008. We have decided to work
with White Knot for Equality to distribute white knots locally
and start the dialogue for supporting civil marriage equality.

Octagon Arts Festival
In September we volunteer with
the annual Octagon Arts Fesitval.
It is a daylong event where many Iowa artists come together to
showcase their work and celebrate art. The money raised supports
the arts
center in downtown Ames.
IPTV
Festival
In March, we spend the evening
answering phones to raise money for Iowa
Public Television during their "Festival" Telethon.
The annual membership drive supports the station and the programming
it offers.
