What is the Rush/Pledge program?
The Rush period is when the fraternity holds events for interested
men to get to meet brothers, and get to learn about the fraternity.
The events can range from meeting for dinner, a game of pool,
movies, or just meeting for a cup of coffee. The focus on
the rush events is getting to know each other, and enable
the rushees to make a decision as to whether they want to
join the fraternity.
At the end of the Rush period, the fraternity decides which
rushees will be offered a bid to joining the fraternity. If
the rushee accepts, he is then a pledge, and will go through
the pledge program.
Pledging the Fraternity
Through the pledge program, the pledges are provided opportunities
to learn more about the fraternity, the brothers, and about
the bond of brotherhood.
During the pledge period, each pledge will be assigned a
'big brother' who will help you through the process. The big
brother is there to guide you, get to know you better, and
provide an outlet for any questions you may have during this
period.
The pledge process should be a time of excitement, lots of
work, and of course lots of fun! At the end of the pledge
period, selected pledges are chosen to become brothers. The
culmination of the pledge process is called the "Night
of Madness", a theme-driven party that the pledge class
puts on for the brothers. Past nights have run the full range
of themes, everything from the "Gay 20s" to the
"Retro 80s", "Baseball Night", and the
latest, "The Mad Hatters Tea Party".
Pledge Education Program
The
pledge education program is accomplished through a variety
of activities and projects which the fraternity expects all
pledges and most brothers to participate in. These activities
include (but not limited to):
- Weekly Pledge meetings
- Meeting with and interviewing individual brothers
- Service Project (planned by pledge class)
- Fundraiser (planned by pledge class)
- Walk outs (camping/road trips)
- Night of Madness (party planned by Pledges)
- Examination of your knowledge about our fraternity.
Hazing
Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity observes a no-hazing
policy.
- There shall be no hazing or informal initiation in connection
with the functions of any chapter. The mistreatment of pledges,
members, or other persons at any time shall be considered
a violation of the purposes of the National Fraternity.
Furthermore, there is a strict hands-off policy, in which
pledges and brothers are not allowed to have romantic and/or
sexual relationships. All rules and regulations are part of
the pledge education program.
While details vary from pledge class to pledge class, all
brothers have gone through the same education program and
the same basic activities. All details on the pledge program
are decided by the pledges, the pledgemaster, and the brothers.
