  1. Is there hazing in the pledge process?
No. Hazing is not allowed in the fraternity.

  2. Is Delta Lambda Phi (DLP) a 'sex club'?
No. Delta Lambda Phi is a social fraternity, providing a positive place to meet lifelong friends and is not a 'sex club'.

  3. What's the difference between Delta Lambda Phi and BGLA?
It is not the intention of DLP to be in competition with any other groups (gay or straight, including BGLA). We have worked with BGLA on occasions, and are planning on working with Crape Myrtle, which is a large organization in the triangle area that works for the betterment of all people, and helps raise money for AIDS research.

The principle difference is that BGLA is an activism group, organizing many events to celebrate diversity and national gay holidays. It is a place for actively OUT Bisexuals, Gays, Lesbians, and Allies to get together. DLP, on the other hand, is aimed to provide a discreet way for gay men to have a dignified and purposeful social life. DLP was created to enable gay men to have a place in which to form quality, lifelong friendships with other gay men -- a place to find Brotherhood.

  4. Do you have to be a student to join?
No, it is not necessary to be a student at NC State to join DLP. Nationally we have two types of chapters, campus-based and community based. The Beta-Alpha chapter is community based, but it is focused on the NCState campus. All college students from the area who are willing to commute to NCSU campus for weekly meetings are invited to join. There are, however, certain officers positions that are restricted to current NCSU students, according to University's policy.

  5. Do you discriminate?
No. All men are welcome to apply for membership, regardless of race, socioeconomic background, religion, or sexual orientation. There are no 'litmus tests' concerning membership eligibility.

  6. What about age limitations?
Due to legal liabilities, we can not let anybody under 18 to join us as brothers, however, you are invited to keep in touch with us via e-mails, your bid will be offered after your 18th birthday.;-) Any non-student wishing to join may do so, but there is an age cap of 29.

  7. You said 'all men' are welcome to join. So women are excluded?
The fraternity visited the co-ed fraternity issue from 1991- 1992, and at our Minneapolis convention in 1992 decided to stay single-sex rather than going coed. We feel if straight men can have the 'traditional' (i.e. non-coed) Greek experience, gay men should be able to have it as well. Plus, gay men, by virtue of their being gay men, go through a unique, shared social experience. Delta Lambda Phi is a way for gay men of varying backgrounds (sometimes radically varying backgrounds) to find common ground in that experience. Those who claim that our lesbian friends, as much as we love and support them as comrades-in-arms, have the same social experience as gay men, this is not true Our lesbian friends have the option of pledging our 'sister' sorority, Lambda Delta Lambda.

  8. How does one go about joining?
There are periodic membership drives called 'Rushes,' which are publicized. Going to the open Rush events and meeting the Brothers is a good way of finding out more about what the fraternity is about. After the rush events, bids are offered to the rushees whom the brotherhood feel would fit in with DLP.

If you want to be notified of any upcoming events, e-mail dlpncsu@yahoo.com for details.

  9. Is it a national fraternity, or just a sort of a 'pretend' fraternity?
Delta Lambda Phi is a National Social Fraternity founded in 1986. We currently have over twenty chapters nationwide. We have an elected Board of Trustees and hold a National Convention every year. It is in every sense of the word a social fraternity, based on the college Greek model. It is a 501(c)7 organization.

  10. What about locally in NC State? How well is Delta Lambda Phi connect with the rest of the University?
We currently operate as a registered student organization on NC State campus, directly under Greek Life. We are invited, and may attend any events organized by Greek Life if we so chose to.

We are not a part of Inter-Fraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Association, or Collaborative Greek Council. Becoming a member of such "umbrella organizations" is neither our goal or requirement .

  11. Do you have a house? Do I have to move in if I join?
We currently do not have our own frat house, and there are no plans to have one.
