The voyage to becoming a brother in Delta Lambda Phi can be an extremely rewarding experience for you. As in almost any situation, your individual journey will be based upon the enthusiasm, effort and spirit that you put into your own personal experience.
Once you have decided you want to pursue the brotherhood, there will be
a series of RUSH events that are typically scheduled both in the late
summer into early fall, and mid-winter into the early spring months.
RUSH is a series of informal gatherings for interested men to come
together to meet the active brothers and see what we are all about. The DLP brotherhood is open to any individuals who are (18) eighteen
and up, and who exemplify a strong desire and willingness to help our
chapter exceed to new heights. At no time is RUSH period a commitment to
join the fraternity.Extension of Bids into the AO Brotherhood
After the RUSH process is completed, the active brothers will extend
bids – an invitation to move forward into the next phase of becoming a
“Lambda Man.” Bids are typically extended to those men who have shown a
genuine interest in the fraternity, as well as, demonstrated the
qualities and standards that our National Board of Directors seeks in a Lambda
Man, those being honor, integrity, character and the desire to work as a
team.
Accepting a bid and entering the Pledge process
Upon accepting a bid, you will enter into a period of education and
evaluation called pledge. The pledge period begins with your pledge
induction ceremony and the pledge period will typically run seven to
eight weeks in length. During this time you will learn the history,
symbols and traditions of the fraternity, as well as plan and conduct a
social, service and fundraising project. The time commitment is not huge
but it can be intensive. In addition to a one hour a week and mandatory
pledge education class, pledges may need to schedule ample time for
social and service projects.
Pledge education classes take place under the supervision of the Pledge
Educator, who will challenge pledges as a group to work amongst one
another at all times. Pledges should feel free to approach the Pledge
educator at any time with questions or concerns about their progress as
a pledge.
A Word on Fraternity Hazing
Delta Lambda Phi expressly forbids hazing in conjunction with any
fraternity activities. Expressing elements of this nature toward pledges
or any other individuals associated wit the fraternity infringes upon
the personal freedom of others and goes against the purposes of the
chapter and the National Fraternity.
Pledges must commit themselves to the following event requirements to be eligible to pledge:
Pledge Class Induction Ceremony
Weekly Pledge Education Class (8 weeks @ 2 hrs. a week)
Pledges must do 4 hrs of community service and a fundraising event
Night of Madness Celebration
New Brother Initiation Ceremony
